T&T’s Nicholas Romany grabs Barbados Fun Mile title

Approximately 678 runners converged on the Garrison Savannah on Friday evening, and as the settling dust revealed, Trinidad and Tobago’s Nicholas Romany emerged the winner of the Run Barbados Fun Mile.

Romany crossed the finish line in a time of four minutes and 38 seconds (4:38), setting the tone for the 40th edition of Run Barbados, a global magnet for athletes.

Departing Garrison Savannah with a cash prize of US$250, Romany told Barbados TODAY that he also has his sights set on conquering the 10K and half marathon challenges as well.

Rick Williams (4:46) of Barbados and Kenya’s Alex Ekem (4:48) placed second and third respectively in the male open category, while Ashlyn Simmons, Mem Cruz and Carlie Robinson were the top three open females.

The competition shifts to the East Coast today, with all races commencing at Barclay’s Park in St Andrew.

The Casuarina 10K, one of the Caribbean’s oldest races, and the popular Sleeping Giant 5K race are on the agenda.

Sunday will see the conclusion of this year’s Run Barbados with the Joe’s River 5K Walk, the Farley Hill Marathon, and the Sand Dunes Half Marathon, wrapping up the vibrant hosting of the event.
