Nurses and non-medical staff at the Winston Scott Polyclinic returned to work Monday, 10 days after the health facility was closed, satisfied with the work done to alleviate unsanitary conditions and other environmental issues they said were hampering their jobs.
Staff were to originally return last Thursday, but immediate remedial work had not yet been completed to alleviate some of the problems. The all-clear was given on Sunday afternoon, following a meeting and a tour of the Jemmotts Lane, St Michael medical facility by union and health ministry officials.
National Union of Public WorkersGeneral Secretary Richard Green told Barbados TODAY: “After the visit, we were comfortable that the areas in which they were to work were fit for purpose and that the cleaning and the remedial work to the building made it satisfactory for the worker and were ready to go back to work.”
He said the union, through the workers, will continue to monitor the situation.
