Yellow shines brightest at Springer

Springer Memorial’s  athletes started their journey to the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletic Championships (BSSAC) with a bang during their inter-house sports on Thursday.

Held at the Samuel Jackson Prescod Institute of Technology’s playing field, Yellow House dominated the competition, racking up an impressive 304 points to outshine Red House (223), Purple House (207.50), Green House (203.50), and Blue House (203).

The spotlight of the day fell on Leanna Greene, a seasoned performer with a legacy of stellar displays at previous BSSAC events.

Greene, gearing up for the 2024 edition, showcased a glimpse of what to expect at BSSAC when she tallied 44 points to capture coveted the victrix ludorum title.

Representing Yellow House with fervour, Greene blazed across the finish line in the 1500m and 400m races, and narrowly missed out on the top spot in the 100m and 200m events, finishing behind Shania Boyce. She also secured second place in the 800m.

Reflecting on her outstanding performance, Greene expressed her eagerness to carry the torch for Springer Memorial at BSSAC, citing the inter-house competition as valuable preparation.

In an electrifying display of athleticism, T’Shaena Chalon of Blue House left spectators awestruck with her flawless track record.

Despite her remarkable feats in the Division Five 200m, 400m, and 800m races, Chalon fell just shy of Greene’s overall individual score by a mere four points.

Among the standout performers were Yellow House’s prodigious 15-year-old Alyssa Greene, who secured 37 points, along with Alyssa Atkinson (35 points), Shonte Seale (33 points), Saraya Nicholls (32 points), and Ranesha Stewart (31 points), also left their mark. (RT)
