#NAPSAC 2024 – No stopping Bayley’s, West Terrace

There may have only been field events, but Bayley’s Primary and West Terrace ran away with the Milo Obadele Thompson and the Nation Publishing Patsy Callender zones respectively, when the National Athletic Primary School Championships (NAPSAC) continued on Thursday.

Competing at the Alexandra and Coleridge and Parry schools, Bayley’s turned the boys’ division into a ‘one-man’ show on their way to accumulating 135 points, 70 more than second placed St Cyprians’ Boys’ (65 points), with Milton Lynch placing third on 56 points.

The St Philip-based school also comfortably took home the girls’ title with 98 points, with Hindsbury Primary second on 73 points and St Judes Primary in third on 57 points.

Not to be outdone, West Terrace, the defending NAPSAC girls’ champions, was similarly dominant on their way to romping to the boys’ title with 102 points, well ahead of second placed St Winifred’s (45 points), with Shirley Chisholm Primary and St Alban’s Primary tied for third place on 43 points.

The girls were also in a no-nonsense mood, with their 97 points miles ahead of Shirley Chisholm (68 points) and St Alban’s, which finished second and third respectively.

Four records fell on the day, with athletes from Bayley’s responsible for two of them.

Ramani Dublin leapt 3.32 metres to set a new mark in the Under-9 boys’ long jump, while Mykah Jones threw the shot put 9.96 metres to also establish a new record among the Under-13 boys in the Obadele Thompson zone.

Risa Leacock of Hindsbury Primary also set a new mark in the Under-11 girls’ long jump with an effort measured at 3.55 metres, while Axel Whitehead’s throw of 9.63 metres was good enough to set a new record in the Patsy Callender zone in the Under-13 boys’ shot put. (RB)
