Cool down for 11-plus sitters at Combermere School

Over 100 primary school pupils who sat today’s Common Entrance Exams at Combermere School got free sno cones to battle the heat thanks to the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU).

Communications Specialist and Information Officer for BWU Cheyne Jones, along with some of his colleagues, provided the frozen treats for students after they left the exam rooms.

He told Barbados TODAY that the exercise, which was done in partnership with Smiley Sno Cones & Co. Ltd, was part of the union’s effort to engage more with the youth.

“[At] the Barbados Workers’ Union, we have been placing a heavy emphasis on the youth recently, and this is just a way [where] we want to give back to the students in this area. Hindsbury is our adopted school and they are sitting their exam here at Combermere…. Smileys has been one of our partners over the years; he has been doing really well with us, and we know over the past couple months these students who are the future workers [have been] preparing for the Common Entrance and felt like they were working. So this is their reward.” (SB)
