Trini to spend another year in jail for guns, drugs

Four years after importing guns and drugs into the island, Trinidadian Travell Kelson Fox was told that he had to spend over one more year at Dodds Prison.

Justice Randall Worrell gave the resident of Pipiol Road, Santa Cruz starting sentences of nine years for each offence in the No. 2 Supreme Court earlier this week.

Fox had previously pleaded guilty to possessing, importing and trafficking 94.35 kilogrammes of cannabis and 6.75 kilogrammes of cocaine on December 2, 2020.

He also confessed to the importation and possession of a Glock-made model 19 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol; a Draco AK pistol and 59 rounds of ammunition and possession.

Justice Worrell deducted one year for mitigating features, and one-third for his early guilty plea. Deductions were also taken for the 1 378 days Fox has spent on remand and 180 days for the delay in the case being brought to trial.

After he convicted, reprimanded and discharged Fox on the drug importation and possession charges, Justice Worrell ordered him to spend 389 days for the remaining offences. The sentences will run concurrently.

Fox was represented by Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens. Principal State Counsel Olivia Davis and Principal State Counsel Oliver Thomas appeared on behalf of the State.
