The Barbados Light & Power Company (Light & Power) recently celebrated its 113th anniversary, marking over a century of dedicated service to the nation.
In recognition of this significant milestone, Light & Power is hosting a week of celebratory activities, which commenced with a special Service of Thanksgiving. During the service, the company underscored its deep-rooted connection to the community and highlighted its ongoing partnerships with local charitable organisations.
Financial contributions were made to two esteemed charitable organisations: Cancer Support Services and the Parent Education for Development in Barbados (PAREDOS). Representatives from both organisations were presented with cheques, symbolising the company’s continued support and commitment to their invaluable work.
Director of PAREDOS Cecily Clarke-Richmond expressed her gratitude, saying, “Light & Power has been a consistent partner over the years. Our educational programmes greatly depend on such funds, and this organisation has never disappointed. We look forward to doing even more in anticipation of their ongoing support.”
President of Cancer Support Services Carlisle Best echoed those sentiments.
“Light & Power’s support has been unwavering over the years. As you have been there for us, we will be there for you. If at any time, any staff member requires our services, please feel free to reach out. We will be more than willing and ready to do our part,” he said.
The anniversary celebrations culminate with the Luminosity Awards Ceremony, an event recognising employees for their exceptional dedication and service to the company and its customers.
Roger Blackman, Managing Director of Light & Power, emphasised the significance of this occasion, saying it was an opportunity to recognise employees who work 24/7 to service customers and who remain aligned with the company’s mission to provide safe and reliable service for all Barbadians.
“As a company, we remain committed to our core values and our community,” he said.
Having officially introduced electricity to Barbados on June 17, 1911, the power company has grown from its humble beginnings to currently providing power to more than 228 000 customers and businesses daily. (PR)
