Jayesh Whitehead’s mother was nervous about his Common Entrance Examination results. But the nine-year-old was fully confident that he had done well.
And the student of the Seventh Day Adventist Primary School justified his confidence, attaining a 244.50 score, the second-highest among the boys, with 99 per cent in Mathematics, 93 per cent in English and the top grade in his essay.
The early sitter told reporters that he was elated at his achievement, running to his friends to share the news upon finding out.
In preparing for the May 7 exam, he said a lot of practice tests had come his way and when he saw the actual paper, “it felt easy”.
Happy to be heading to the Barbados Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School at the start of the new academic year, the avid footballer said he was most looking forward to playing his favourite sport at his new school.
A proud Neisha Whitehead spoke of her son’s brilliance in Mathematics and said his almost-perfect score in that subject was no surprise. She extended thanks to her aunt for working with him every Friday since he began school.
Principal Dr Cheryl Weekes also offered her congratulations to the student. “We are extremely pleased and elated that as a private school and as a Christian school that we were able to have a student in that top,” she added.
