Airport runway closed after private plane has problems landing

Flights into Barbados are being diverted, and departures have been delayed after a private aircraft encountered difficulties while landing at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) this morning.

At approximately 10:40 a.m., a private aircraft with registration number N42821 experienced a landing gear malfunction upon arrival at the airport. The aircraft was inbound from Saint Lucia.

“It appeared that the landing gear of the private aircraft did not deploy, but it is currently on the runway at GAIA safely,” said Sharleen Brown, Corporate Communication Specialist with GAIA, in a statement. She confirmed that all three individuals on board—two passengers and a pilot—were unharmed.

The runway has been closed for inspections by the Civil Aviation Authority and the Barbados Police Service.

Brown has assured that further updates on the situation will be provided as they become available. Travellers are also advised to check with their airlines for the latest information on flight schedules and delays. (RG)
