Rain continues to disrupt BRTO

The 2024 Barbados Road Tennis Open continued to be plagued by rain as the Round of 64 matches were scheduled to resume on Thursday at the Dover Courts. Despite the interruptions, a few matches were able to reach completion.

Dario Hinds, the man known as CR7, secured his spot in the Round of 32 with a victory over Terry Smith. Hinds had taken the first set 21-16 before the rain forced a stoppage on Wednesday. When play resumed, Hinds continued his dominant form, taking the second set 21-12 to clinch the match.

Davien Taylor staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Seth Best. After losing the first set 18-21, Taylor rallied to win the second set 21-16 and dominated the third set 21-9 to advance to the next round.

The match between Julian ‘Michael Jackson’ White and Shamon Weekes was also affected by the rain. White won the first set 21-18, but the second set was halted at 11-7 due to the inclement weather.

The rain-affected matches, including the unfinished White-Weekes encounter and the yet-to-begin match between Antonio ‘Lil Man’ Daniel and Shaquan Henry, have been rescheduled for Saturday, August 17, at the Belfield Court. These matches will be played prior to the scheduled Round of 32 matches, resulting in an earlier start time of 6:00 p.m.

As the Barbados Road Tennis Open continues, fans will be hoping for more favourable weather conditions to allow for uninterrupted play and exciting matches.
