Tyra Trotman has resigned as President of the Young Democrats and cut ties with the opposition Democratic Labour Party.
She announced her resignation in a letter addressed to the party’s Acting General Secretary Pedro Shepherd on Monday.
Trotman, an attorney-at-law, said her decision came after careful consideration of the recent changes in leadership and the party’s overall direction.
“I have always valued the principles and values that the Democratic Labour Party has represented. However, I have found that the new leadership and strategic direction no longer align with my personal beliefs or the ideals that initially drew me to the party,” she said.
“While I appreciate the efforts of those who continue to work towards the party’s goals, I believe it is in my best interest to step away at this time. I hope to find a path that is more aligned with my values and allows me to contribute to the political discourse in a meaningful manner.”
