Shian Brathwaite scored a half century to lead the Jonathan Drakes XI to a 4 wicket victory over the Matthew Jones XI in the first of four trial games in preparation for the CG United CWI Regional Super 50 Cup on Tuesday.
Playing at Kensington Oval, Captain Matthew Jones won the toss and elected to bat in a game reduced to 45 overs due to some early morning rain showers.
Jones XI were off to a good start as openers Zachary McCaskie and Leniko Boucher put on 44 for the first wicket before Boucher was out caught off the bowling of Stefon King for 15.
On a pitch suited for batting, the Jones XI faltered as they went from 60-1 to 86-6 in a space of 10 overs, losing McCaskie for 38 in 37 balls, while fast bowler Amari Goodridge picked up three wickets during that collapse.
Jayden Roberts and Keon Harding formed an 83-run partnership before Jarion Hoyte struck in consecutive balls to remove Roberts, 47 in 67 balls, and Ian Boyce for nought.
Harding then stepped up into another gear as he scored 65 in 67 balls which included 3 fours and 3 sixes to carry his team to a respectable total of 217 all out.
Goodridge took 3-20 in 8 overs and Hoyte 3-59 in 9 overs.
Opening batter Shian Brathwaite, played a delightful knock, stroking the ball to all ends of the oval as he and Captain Jonthan Drakes put on 97 runs for the third wicket to take the score from 43-2 to 140-3 before Drakes was stumped by Zidane Harewood off the bowling of Tariq O’neale for a well played 41.
Shortly after, Brathwaite lost his wicket, LBW to Captain Jones for 65, he batted 72 balls and accumulated 8 fours, 148-4.
Tevyn Walcott (21), Giovonte Depeiza (15) and Ryshon Williams (26) all chipped in as the middle order brought them home to victory, scoring 218-6 in 37.1 overs.
Keon Harding took 2-29 in 5 overs while Jones had 2-30 in 8 overs.
The second 50 over trial game will take place at Kensington Oval on Thursday September 26th from 945am. (ZM)
