The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) has unveiled an extensive schedule of events for November in celebration of Barbados’ 50th Independence Anniversary.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday morning, the DLP’s fourth vice president, Shaquani Hunte, shared details of the planned activities, inviting participation from members and the wider public.
The celebrations kick off on November 1 with a casual Sunset and Chill Social cocktail evening. The St Philip Branch meeting is set for November 3, which Hunte noted will be a public forum for open discussions on Barbados’ pressing issues.
The calendar features several community-oriented events, including a panel discussion led by the Young Democrats, and the Ralph Thorne Invitational Cricket Match on November 8 and 9, respectively.
On November 16, the DLP will host a Health and Recreational Family Day featuring health professionals, fitness activities, and a culinary contest showcasing Bajan cuisine. A flea market is to be held concurrently, providing local vendors a platform to sell their goods.
November 17 brings a public meeting, where DLP leaders will address issues significant to Barbadians. This is followed by the Road Tennis Exhibition Showcase on November 19, held at the Errol Barrow Auditorium.
Among other highlights, the schedule includes activities scheduled for November 24 including an Independence Luncheon at the DLP headquarters and a church service at Christ Church Parish Church.
An Independence panel discussion including DLP members will take place on November 26, a bingo night is scheduled for November 28, and the annual branch walk in St Thomas will happen on November 29.
The DLP’s Independence celebration will culminate on November 30 with a cocktail conversation event and an art exhibition, including an art competition for students of all ages.
