Akari Sydney, a junior from Bridgetown, Barbados, was this week nominated by his school, Evangel University, for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Men’s Soccer Champions of Character team. The nomination is based upon several service projects he took part in including helping out at soccer clinics for children with special needs (Top Soccer) and getting involved with the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots programme, while also being a high achieving student with a double major in Applied Math and Physics.
On the field of play, the six-foot midfielder has scored one goal and registered one assist in 17 games this season, 16 of which he started. This is his best season so far in the collegiate game. The Valor ended the season with an 8-6-4 record, the best all-time mark in Evangel men’s soccer history, and the most conference wins (4) in a single season of EU history.

The KCAC Champions of Character awards are presented by IMA Financial Group, and are awarded to the student-athletes and team who best represent the mission of the Champions of Character Programme.
