Barbadian diaspora artists headline 15th Annual CaFA Fair

Multi-award-winning scenic designer and visual artist Christopher Cumberbatch headlines a list of over 40 Caribbean and Diaspora contemporary artists participating in the 15th Annual Caribbean Fine Art (CaFA) Fair, at the refurbished Pelican House.

Cumberbatch will discuss his career designing and creating sets for stage and screen on Saturday afternoon, as part of the daily schedule of art, fashion, film, and performance.

Actor/Director Tyson Hall, whose credits include Empire Boulevard, Raising Kanan and Godfather of Harlem, will discuss his career and filmography at UWI EBCCI on the Thursday night of the fair at 7 p.m.

His visual art will also be on display at the Pelican House venue, which is adjacent to the historic Pelican Village Craft Centre in the heart of Bridgetown. Both Cumberbatch and Hall are Barbadian diaspora born in the US. While operating on opposite sides of the camera, they have worked with many of the biggest names in the film and TV world.

Art enthusiasts worldwide will be able to join CaFA Fair 2025 in person at Pelican House in Bridgetown, Barbados, or without leaving their homes by visiting the website www.caribbean.global, from March 5 to 9.

“We are excited to present the range of styles and media from emerging and established artists representing 14 Caribbean nations, Ghana, Senegal and the USA,” said CaFA Fair Executive Director Anderson M. Pilgrim. “We are honoured to feature the array of local, regional and diaspora talent as part of our scheduled programming this year.”

Daniel Hort, the executive director of Onomatopoeia Art and a co-producer of the event added: “With the incredible international growth and interest in Caribbean fine art, the opportunity to present a broader vision of the cultural creativity from the region grows as well. Our presentation of Cosmoda Runway, introduced in 2023 as a major element of our Fashion Showcase, will enhance the opportunities to work with major pageant and fashion outlets to present the colours, style and artistry of carnival.”

This year’s fine art show will feature a strong representation of photography and photo-based art, from practitioners in the Caribbean and the Diaspora.  In fact, a panel of experts will explore the subject of ‘Contemporary Photography: Mixed Media and Photo-based Art’ on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
