Wanderers cricket club capped off a remarkable 2024 season with another title as their bowling unit led them to victory by an innings and 64 runs in two days of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) 4-day Intermediate Division competition finals at the Desmond Haynes Oval on Sunday against CJM Enterprises Boscobelle.
Backed by 3 wickets each from fast bowler Dominic Hart, teenaged off spinner Zephan Brown and veteran leg spinner Nikolai Charles, Wanderers bowled out the Boscobelle team in the 20th over for a paltry total of 55 as they took an overall first innings lead of 163 runs to enforce the follow-on.
Opening bowler Hart dismissed the first three batters with the scores on 5, 16, and 35. He removed Dario Lopez (zero), Jadeja Edwards (6), and Richard Greaves for the top score of 15. Hart set the tone with a brilliant spell for his 3 wickets from 7 overs, which cost only 15 runs.
18 year old Brown, who also opened the bowling with his off spin, was able to pick up his 3 wickets for 37 runs from 10 overs. In partnership with Charles, they wrecked the middle order of the batting team. Boscobelle slumped from 45 for 4 to 55 for 9, Kemar Johnson did not bat, and the team was ruled all-out. Charles had excellent figures of 3 for 1 in 3.2 overs.
Boscobelle were off to a better start in their second innings when they were cruising along at 42 for 1. They then lost two wickets in quick succession to Brown when he removed Jadeja Edwards caught and bowled for 15 and Richard Greaves LBW for 26 to push the score to 45 for 3.
Renaldo Griffith and Alston Bobb showed a bit of resilience during the middle of the innings, but once they were both removed, the score quickly fell from 91 for 4 to 99 all out, resulting in a dominant win by the Wanderers team.
Bobb top scored with 29 for Boscobelle while Brown finished with 4 for 44 and 7 wickets in the game. Anthony Manning-Meritt cleaned up the final 4 wickets to end with 5 for 7 in 4.5 overs.
This would be the second major title for the club in the 2024 BCA season as they also captured the Elite Division 3-day championship. Wanderers will be promoted to the First Division championships for the 2025 season.
