The Co-operators General Insurance Barbados Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) Premier League competition delivered a mix of blowouts and close battles at the Barbados Community College (BCC) on Super Sunday.
The 246 Mobile Shop City United Celtics flexed their offensive muscles in a convincing 94-70 victory over the Island Care Ambulance Service & BodyxB Lakers.
Lakers came out swinging early to lead 19-27 after the first quarter, with Primus Walrond and Tyreke Harewood wreaking havoc in the middle. However, the Celtics’ depth and three-point shooting proved too much for the Lakers, with Kiserian Adams leading the charge with a game-high 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Joel Hunte added 22 points, while Jered Alleyne contributed 13.
Lakers’ veteran Keefe Birkett tried to spark a rally with 13 points and the score reading 51-41 at halftime, but with the Celtics outshooting and outpacing them, the contest was decided in the fourth, where City piled on 32 points. Walrond finished with 22 points and three blocks, while Harewood had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Burger King Clapham Bulls stampeded the Warrens All Stars 101-62 in a lopsided encounter that saw the Bulls take complete control from the second quarter onwards.
Led by Simeon Maynard’s explosive 31-point performance, the Bulls overwhelmed Warrens on both ends of the court. Their defensive intensity forced 33 points off turnovers, and their efficiency in transition left Warrens with no answers. Kaliel Austin and Jonathan Dottin tried to keep Warrens in the game with 10 and 17 points, respectively, but the Bulls’ balanced scoring attack and defensive dominance ensured only one outcome. At halftime, the score was 45-22, and after the third ended, it was 60-47, but an explosion of shooting, including eight threes from Maynard, dismantled the Warrens’s resolve.
US-based D1 player Kyrone Alexander finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Bulls, supporting Maynard, while Derion Hurley scored 14, and Rahiim Gibbs and Rasheed Maynard added 13 points each.
In one of the more competitive games of the night, Pinelands held off a determined NSC Combined Schools Tridents squad 67-63.
The lead changed hands multiple times, but Pinelands managed to execute in crunch time. Rachad Hall put the team on his back with a commanding 28-point, 14-rebound performance, sinking crucial free throws to seal the win. Nigel Jones added 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Nathaniel Scott led the Tridents with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The game went down to the wire, but Pinelands’ late composure gave them the edge.
Fusionz Boutique Station Hill Cavaliers decimated the C.A.M Smart Assurance Agent Inc. Heat with a 113-45 rout, marking the biggest blowout of the night.
The Cavaliers’ dominance was on full display, with Gavin Phillips top-scoring with 27 points. Omar Bowen, with 18 points and 15 rebounds and Darren Hunte, with 16 points, joined the scoring party as the Heat struggled to find any rhythm offensively. Cavaliers’ suffocating defence forced a staggering 38 points off turnovers, while their fast-break game ran Heat off the court.
