Man admits to unlawful sex with 12-year-old girl

A St Michael man appeared in Supreme Court No. 5 on Thursday and pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with a 12-year-old girl almost 15 years ago.

Standing in the dock before Madam Justice Pamela Beckles, Ramon Rommell Marshall of Lower Estate confessed to having sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 14 on April 5, 2010. He was 16 at the time.

Senior State Counsel Kevin Forde accepted the plea and read the facts into evidence.

The court heard that the complainant attended a fun day at Content, St Thomas with her sister on the date of the offence.

Later in the evening, as she was looking for her sibling, Marshall approached her and led her to a wall structure under construction. He took the minor inside and led her into the basement, and raped her.

She did not tell her family what happened when she returned home but confided in a school friend.

On April 22, her mother questioned her, and she admitted to being raped by the now-convicted man. Her mother took her to the police station and to a doctor to be examined.

Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens, who represents Marshall, accepted the facts on her client’s behalf.

Justice Beckles ordered a pre-sentencing report, along with the now-convicted man’s antecedents and remand time records.

He is scheduled to return to court on April 17.
