Sada Williams edges Jamaican rival for 200m victory

Two-time world bronze medallist Sada Williams produced a season’s best performance to win the women’s 200-metre final at the Velocity Fest #16 yesterday in Kingston, Jamaica.

Competing at the National Stadium, the Barbadian darling of track and field, clocked 23.10 seconds to edge Jamaican sprinter Tia Clayton (23.11).

Williams, a Nike athlete who represents MVP track club ran a brilliant curve before finishing ahead of Clayton to win on the line. Kemba Nelson (23.42) was third.

In the men’s 200 metre final, Barbadians Kuron Griffith and Mario Burke were fifth and sixth respectively, clocking 21.20 and 22.16 in a race won by Oblique Seville.

Former world champion and Olympic silver medallist Yohan Blake finished fourth in 21.15 seconds.

Meantime, other Barbadians T’Shaun Sealy and Yazaid Daniel found the going tough as Sealy stopped the clock in 10.96 but did not advance to the semis of the men’s 100 metres.

Daniel also went out in the first round of the men’s 400-metre event with a time of 49.27. (BT)
