More than 1,650 children in Barbados were impacted by reported abuse cases between 2021 and 2024, according to data from the Child Care Board.
Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey says the real number is likely much higher, as many incidents go unreported.
The figures were shared during a press briefing held to launch Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month 2025, themed Doing Things Differently: Building Communities, Protecting Our Children.
Activities include a national walk on April 25, community outreach events, parenting programmes, and a final workshop on child protection within faith-based institutions.
The public is encouraged to wear blue each Friday in April to support efforts to stop child abuse. (SM)
