The defending champions, the Burger King Clapham Bulls, made history on Friday night as they embarrassed the C.A.M Smart Assurance Agent Inc. Heat 148-37 in the most lopsided win in the recent history of the Co-operators General Insurance, Barbados Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) Premier League.
Lakers’ Tyreke Harewood slammed Pinelands for 51 points.
The night was exciting and jaw-dropping all around. If that performance was not enough, Tyreke “Lanks” Harewood of the Island Care Ambulance Service & BodyxB Lakers put together a top-notch individual showcase, slamming Pinelands for 51 points in a 118-94 win. It was a double-header night that left fans reeling at the Barbados Community College (BCC).
On Simeon Maynard’s birthday, Clapham gifted their teammate a blowout that doubled as a clinical performance. The Bulls dropped 148 points, racked up 90 points in the paint, 65 on the fast break, and 35 off turnovers, a stat line that was so overwhelming, it looked more like a video game than a BABA game.
Simeon Maynard made sure to celebrate in style, scoring 36 points and adding 12 assists and 12 rebounds for a birthday triple-double. Rasheed Maynard was surgical, finishing with 26 points on 87.5% shooting, while Antoine Winter bullied the glass for 22 points and 12 rebounds. Derion Hurley added 15 points and six assists, and six Bulls players finished in double figures.
Clapham was relentless. On the other hand, the Heat looked helpless with just five players. They shot just 12.8% from three, turned the ball over 20 times, and could not muster more than 14 points in any quarter. The 111-point margin will go down as a BABA record and probably stay there for a long time.
If the patrons on hand thought the drama ended there, the second game had fireworks of its own. Early in the first half of the second game, which started close, Rachad Hall of Pinelands lit up the BCC crowd with a savage right-handed tomahawk slam over Lakers’ big man Tyreke “Lanks” Harewood. The dunk was pure electricity, one of the most disrespectful finishes of the season, but Lanks responded like a man possessed.
The forward went on an absolute tear, dropping 51 points on 70.4% shooting, pulling down 18 rebounds, and hitting 12-of-13 from the line. The dunk may have won the crowd, but Harewood won the war on the court, using that moment as fuel to obliterate Pinelands in the second half.
Keefe Birkett (with ball) notched a triple double with 19 points 13 rebounds and 10 assists for Lakers.
Clapham outscored Pinelands 70-50 in the paint and 31-13 on fast breaks. Harewood got support from Keefe Birkett (31 pts, 10 assists) and Primus Walrond (26 pts, 8 rebounds), while Jimal Singh added 13.
Pinelands had moments with Nigel Jones scoring 19, Hall dropping 16, and Kyrie Thorpe added 18 off the bench. However, they could contain Harewood, especially in the third quarter, where the Lakers erupted for 36 points and put the game out of reach. (AS)
