Odwin leads SMU at Red Raider Invite

The Southern Methodist University (SMU) women’s golf team moved up into the top five during the final round of the Red Raider Invitational on Wednesday at Texas Tech’s Rawls Course, with a Bajan star setting the pace.

Three Mustangs finished in the top 25 as SMU rounded off a three-over final day. The Mustangs rebounded from a 13-over first round to post three-under par in round two. They finished at 13-over across the three rounds of the Invitational.  Texas Tech won the tournament at eight-under par.

Barbados’ Emily Odwin recorded her fifth top-10 showing as a Mustang, coming in ninth overall. She carded a 67 in the middle round to vault up the leaderboard. On the final day she shot even par 72. She finished the tournament at two-under par, five off the leaders.

After the first day of play, Odwin led the Mustangs with a two-under 36-hole day. She shot three over in the first round before putting it all together in round two. Her 67 included six birdies over the course of round two.

A former Barbados Junior International Champion, Odwin was the first Barbadian to qualify for both the US Women’s Amateur and the US Girls Junior in the same year.

The team finished in 5th and Emily led the team shooting a total score of 2 under par and finishing in 9th place, recording her 5th top ten finish as a Mustang.

The NCAA Division I Mustangs return to the course for the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr Condoleezza Rice from October 18-20.
