Hundreds of public service vehicle (PSV) workers across the country will be required to complete a new public service training course at the Barbados Community College (BCC), starting in January, to renew their permits.
Assistant Director of Administration at the Transport Authority, Maria Boyce announced the January 26 start date for the classes at a press conference at the Ministry of Transport this morning.
The course is mandated under the recently gazetted Transport Authority Regulations 2024.
Boyce said the regulations were necessary and long overdue, considering the numerous issues the PSV sector has presented over the years.
“I hope that we would all remember that the purpose of the Transport Authority Regulations is to ensure that players in the marketplace, each of us, understand how we are to function, why we are to function in the way we are to function, and understand as well the consequences of failing to function in the manner that we are required to do,” she said.
“I believe that they are certainly long overdue and welcomed from an administrative perspective for the organisation, since it gives us the opportunity to act in the manner in which we were designed and legislated to do,” Boyce added.
