Barbados Museum reaffirms commitment to preserving Newton enslaved burial ground

The Barbados Museum and Historical Society thanks the public for its continued interest and support for the Enslaved Burial Ground at Newton and all the recent educational programming it has endeavoured to make available to the general public.

Valid concerns have been expressed for the property within the larger development of the Phase 1 Ancestral Memorial at Newton.

We are now working with the BTI to assess, mitigate and remediate any of the archaeological impacts that have resulted from development. Once the findings from these investigations are reported we look forward to sharing them with the public. We also look forward to the inclusion of communities in all consultations and planning in the future.
