The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) advises today Thursday, January 11th that repair work is still underway at its Hampton facility in St. Philip. However, instead of ceasing this week Friday, January 12th, crews will continue work next week.
In an effort to allow the distribution network time to recharge and customers not to be impacted too badly by water outages, the BWA is balancing the replenishment of the network with the ongoing repairs. The desire to keep the pipe-borne supply accessible to our valued customers for as long as possible, has prompted the decision to continue the repairs at Hampton next week.
This afternoon, crews will tackle the removal and replacement of the old support beams for two (2) of the pumps on location, weather permitting. The Station will remain fully online until work starts to remove and replace the beams. It is anticipated that it will take approximately six (6) hours to have the new beams installed to efficiently support the new pumps. During this period, the pumping capacity at the facility will be reduced to 50 per cent (50%). Therefore by the end of this week, crews will have concluded one half of the work to replace the pumps.
The exercise will therefore be repeated during the coming week, with crews tackling the second half of the pump replacement work on the other side of the structure which supports the remaining two (2) pumps.
The BWA reminds residents in the connected catchment area that their pipe-borne supply will be intermittent while work is being conducted and continues to urge customers to store an adequate amount of water for their households to help during this period.
The Authority’s Water Tanker team will also continue to assist customers as a temporary measure. The Barbados Water Authority appreciates the continued understanding and patience of the affected residents and will continue to share updates on the progress of the work. (BWA)
