Activities to commemorate Barrow’s legacy

The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) is hosting several family-oriented activities over the coming weekend to commemorate the legacy of National Hero Errol Walton Barrow.

During a press conference held at its headquarters in George Street, St Michael on Wednesday, the party’s general secretary Steve Blackett outlined the scheduled activities.

On Friday, there will be a lecture and award ceremony held at the DLP headquarters.

The George Street Auditorium will be named in honour of Barrow. Following that, there will be a lecture delivered by former Bahamian Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs KC Allyson Maynar Gibson.

Six prestigious awards will be presented to outstanding party faithfuls after the lecture, followed by a cocktail reception.

On Saturday, January 20, there will be a T-20 cricket match at the Gall Hill playing field in St John. The match will see players from the David Thompson 11, captained by Barbados West Indies player Shamarh Brooks, clash with the Errol Barrow 11 captained by former Barbados Youth batsman Vonrick Nurse.

On Sunday, January 21, Errol Barrow Day, there will be a special service at the First Baptist Church in Constitution Road, St Michael.

There will also be a public meeting at the Penalty Spot Sports Bar in Carters, St John that evening. Five speakers will discuss topical issues of the day. (SZB)
