A thick plume of Saharan dust haze is currently affecting the island and, as such, persons who suffer from respiratory issues are urged to be on alert as “concentrations are expected to gradually increase throughout the afternoon and peak overnight.”
“Persons with respiratory issues or allergies should ensure that they travel with, or have close at hand, all prescribed relevant medications. Marine users should monitor the situation closely, along with the forecast for any further deterioration to the visibility,” the Barbados Meteorological Services said in a significant dust haze advisory issued this afternoon.
A dust-haze advisory is issued when dust haze has already or is forecasted to reduce visibility to between 5 and 10km within 36 hours.
Met officials say satellite observations and model data indicate that there will be some improvement from tomorrow afternoon; however, some slight to moderate haze will still be present across the country and the marine area for the remainder of the week. (BMS/BT)
