Defending netball champs yet to drop a game

C.O. Williams Rangers are proving to be the sheriffs of the Barbados Netball Association’s Premier League.

The defending champions extended their unbeaten run to six games while handing St Barnabas Netball Club their first loss at the Netball Stadium on Wednesday night.

Led by goal shoot Damia Walrond, Rangers extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points after registering a comfortable 45-40 victory.

Rangers led from pillar to post, converting a 14-8 advantage at the end of the opening period to a dominant 29-18 lead at the half.

They extended that lead even further by the end of the third quarter (38-25), before a late rally by St Barnabas fell just short when the final whistle blew.

Walrond netted 34 of her 36 attempts, while goal attack Nikita Payne struggled on the night, scoring just 11 of her 21 shots.

For St Barnabas, goal shoot Jada Smith sank 27 of her 41 attempts, goal attack Trishan Deane scored 12 of her 16 shots and goal attack Chiara Chase one of her two attempts.

The win carried Rangers to 28 points with five wins and one draw.

Second placed UWI Blackbirds are on 21 points having won four games and lost one, while St Barnabas is in third position on 16 points with three wins and one loss.

Meanwhile, the only winless teams BPA Police Boys & Girls Club and Spooners Hill Firebirds are rooted to the bottom of the table.

Both teams are yet to record a victory in their four matches.
