Met office advises of possible gusty winds tonight as tropical wave passes island

Gusty winds and showers are likely to impact the island tonight and early tomorrow as a tropical wave passes south of the island, according to the Barbados Meteorological Services, (BMS).

The Met Office said it’s keeping a close eye on the tropical wave which was located 200 miles southeast of the island at 5:30 p.m.

“Current analysis suggests wind speeds of 50 km/h (30mph) along with higher gusts and a few downpours of rainfall are possible for Barbados tonight and early tomorrow,” the BMS statement said.

It advised that winds are likely to result in the tumbling or rolling of unsecured objects such as garbage cans and tents. Additionally, some tree branches could be blown down.

The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM, and GIS websites and their respective social media pages, along with the local media networks throughout the night.
