A thankful Zamara Dottin was overwhelmed with joy at the news that she was one of the top 10 students in this year’s Common Entrance Exam.
The Rock Christian School student received a perfect score in Mathematics, 95 in English and an A on her Composition paper and will enter Harrison College in the new school year.
“Firstly, I would like to thank God because I was praying a lot. Then I would love to thank my parents who are always supportive, my class teacher Mrs Yaicob, who is overall an amazing teacher and then my classmates who are always there for me, my extended family, all of my teachers throughout the years and my lessons’ teachers,” she said.
Dottin said her aim in the exam had been to make the top 100 students’ list, and so the news that she had reached the highest percentile was a shock.
“I always did my best in class, I always did my best when I did my homework at home and I just had to always maintain a certain standard in my work and I could never drop it and I still had to make time to enjoy myself, but there was a balance for sure. When I first entered Class Four my mother told me ‘Work hard and play hard’,” she told Barbados TODAY.
Mum Lisa Dottin was relieved and thankful for the results, recalling that Zamara had been unwell on the day of the examination and that had caused some worry.
“I wanted her to have her heart’s desire, so I am grateful to God and all those persons she listed I am grateful to as well,” she said.
Describing Zamara as “meticulous, conscientious and giving of her best from Day One”, her teacher wished the student all the best at secondary school.
“I know she will make good use of her time at secondary school. She is certainly a well-balanced child and I congratulate her parents for raising a very articulate child who displayed great integrity and commitment to her work,” Yaicob expressed.
