Fourteen years after the police caught him with an illegal firearm, ammunition and marijuana, Carlitos Omar Prescod appeared in the High Court and pleaded guilty to the charges.
The Charnocks Land, Christ Church resident admitted to possession of a .38 calibre revolver without a valid licence, and eight rounds of ammunition without a valid permit on July 14, 2010. In addition, he confessed to having 84.27 grammes of cannabis.
He was represented by attorney Ajamu Boardi.
Accepting the plea on behalf of the State on Monday in the No. 2 Supreme Court, Principal State Counsel Oliver Thomas read the facts into evidence.
The court heard that drug squad detectives acting on a tip went to Prescod’s neighbourhood and saw him standing along the Adams section of the highway at the Charnocks junction. A bag he was carrying was dropped on the ground as officers approached. Police checked the bag and found a silver and black revolver, seven rounds of .38mm rounds, one .9mm bullet, and plastic bags containing wrappings and cannabis.
In his written statement, he told police that he had gone to a dub [fete] in St George in April of that year and while leaving he saw a black scarf by one of the wheels at the back of the car. He unwrapped it, found a loaded gun in a plastic bag and took it home, where he wrapped it in a boxer and placed it in a black bag.
On the morning of July 14, he got ready, placed the weed he had at home in the bag and was on his way to work when he was stopped by the police.
Justice Randall Worrell adjourned the hearing until September 19.
